Nicky Stoner

With a creative Welsh background, my love of art has played an important part in my life. While never formally trained I have always painted; it is part of me.

Inspiration comes from natural forms and textures. I’m motivated by our wonderful coastlines, and love the effects of a wave breaking on a beach, and the drama that comes with the varying light and shade.

I find oils the perfect medium for capturing the movement of waves. The sea is alive with colour, which changes according to the weather, the winds and time of year; it’s an endless source of inspiration.

Although my work may be based on an actual place, my painting process relies more on a personal feeling for the essence of a moment.

I paint on location as well as in my studio where I work from sketches and photographs.
